A total of 80 radiation workers from medical facilities which are utilizing radiation sources in the country for the purpose of diagnosis and therapy are participating in the five (5) days Advanced National Radiation Safety Training Course from 14th to 18th December 2020 organized by the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) in Arusha.
During the 0pening the training, the Radiation Control Director, Dr. Justine Ngaile on behalf of the Director General, urged the participants to ensure that they fully participate in the training, the training will equip them with the knowledge of ensuring safety to the Tanzanians against the possible health effects of radiation.
Dr. Ngaile said that the training was aimed at making participants more aware of the effects of radiation; the recommended dose limits in the course of practices; how to reduce the likelihood of the impacts of radiation exposure in their workplaces; and how to protect themselves by adhering to national and international safety guidelines.
“You will get a thorough training on radiation safety issues in the workplaces, as radiation safety is an important tool in protecting patients and staff against the effects of radiation, as such I strongly believe that you will be empowered by TAEC specialists” said Dr. Ngaile.
Dr. Ngaile said, TAEC will continue to provide such training so as to ensure that the radiation administering workers protect the Tanzanians against the hazards from radiation with the aim of eliminating harmful effects in the course of their practices in various areas including health facilities in the country.
