Arusha, 20 December, 2019
The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) today has officially closed a 5-day National Training Course on Radiation Protection and Safety for Radiation Workers and Radiation Safety Officers (RSO) in diagnostic and interventional radiology to 104 radiographers who use radiation for diagnosis and treatment of diseases from various hospitals in the country.

Speaking during the official closing of the training held at the TAEC Headquarters in Arusha today, Director General, Professor Lazaro Busagala, said the main aim of the training was to build capacity to staff from hospital and health facilities across the country in order for them to provide quality services and ensure quality radiation care with high precautions being taken to reduce the potential hazard from radiation exposure if laws and procedures are not followed.
Professor Busagala has insisted that radiation protection is in the hands of TAEC and radiological providers, so the law, regulations, and procedures should be followed necessarily so that patients who go to health facilities to access radiation service should not be harmed by the effects of ionizing radiation.
Professor Busagala added that radiologists are important link between TAEC and the areas they work therefore much cooperation is needed to further improve the delivery of the radiation diagnostic services.
