TAEC and IAEA Conduct Regional Training Course on Energy Demand Analysis

Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Hon. Professor Daniel Mushi today September 10, 2024 has officiated the opening of the Regional training course on Energy Demand Analysis based on the use of the IAEA Energy Demand Analysis Model (MAED).

Training was officially started on September 9, 2024 at the Corridor Spring hotel in Arusha is coordinated by the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the East African Electricity Authority (EAPP)

The training course aims to increase the energy demand capacity of scientists, planners and decision makers in the countries of the East African energy belt.

The main objectives of the training is to provide awareness and enable participants to use MAED for the analysis of energy needs, to support national and regional energy strategies for sustainable energy development and to facilitate data-based decisions in energy policy and resource allocation.

The training has attracted 50 participants from EAPP member countries which are: Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda and the United Republic of Tanzania.

This training will provide participants with practical skills in energy demand forecasting and analysis using the MAED tool. Focus will be on analyzing energy demand with emphasis on energy planning and policies, social economic factors affecting energy demand by forecasting future energy needs.

Course will run for two weeks comprising of hands-on training, case studies, and collaborative exercises to ensure that participants can apply the knowledge and skills gained to real-world scenarios in their respective countries. The training will be closed on Friday, 20th September, 2024.
