The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) participation in the just ended Nane Nane Agriculture Trade fair held in Zanzibar, Arusha and Simiyu Region.

The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) has participated in this year NANE NANE exhibition that took place in Nyakabindi grounds in Simiyu region, Zanzibar and  Themi grounds, Arusha region.

The exhibitions was officially opened by Hon. Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan on 01/08/2020 with the motto, “FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT, LIVESTOCK AND FISHERIES CHOOSE THE BEST LEADERS 2020” where Hon. Samia Suluhu called on all citizens to elect leaders who are qualified, patriotic and who put the national interest ahead of personal interests.

At least 1230 people visited the commission’s marquee commended TAEC’s activities in promoting safe use of nuclear technology in Tanzania. Visitors also congratulated TAEC for planning to establish a multipurpose irradiation facility that will be used to treat a wide range of foodstuffs and other products for local and export market. The safety and versatility of food irradiation, which is increasingly recognized as an effective method for reducing post-harvest food losses and improving the hygienic quality in foodstuffs, in respond to government industrial policy of stimulating industrial and economic growth, in line with the fifth phase government’s industrialization agenda.


Various government officials who visited the exhibition included the Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Abdallah Ulega, Arusha Regional Commissioner Hon. Iddi Kimanta, Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Hon. Anna Mgwira and Simiyu Regional Commissioner Hon. Athony Mtaka. Others were Arusha Urban District Commissioner Hon. Kenani Kihongosi, Mwanga District Commissioner Hon. Tom Apson.

Given the possible adverse effects of radiation if not fully controlled, visitors suggested that there is a great need to continue to expand regulatory services in all areas in order to control and ensure that all products in the food chain material are properly inspected for the purpose of continuing to protect the public against the harmful effects of radiation.

Visitors expressed their satisfaction on the way the Commission is currently fulfilling its responsibilities including the provision of public education on radiation matters and shortening of time to issue radiation analysis certificates and opening more boarder offices in various areas in the country hence ensuring maximum service delivery to the people.

TAEC also used the platforms to remind and sensitize the general public on the safe use of radiation and nuclear technology in the country.

The exhibition was officially closed on 08 August, 2020 by Hon. Kassim Majaliwa, Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania.
