TRAINING ON CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL, RADIOLOGICAL, AND NUCLEAR (CBRN) EMERGENCIES HELD IN ZANZIBAR ON MARCH 27TH AND 28TH, 2025
The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC), on March 27th and 28th, 2025, conducted essential training on responding to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies. This training took place in Zanzibar, with a total of 24 participants from partner institutions attended.
The training, organized by TAEC, was officially opened by the Director General of TAEC, Professor Najat Kassim Mohammed. Its primary goal was to enhance the preparedness of professionals in dealing with nuclear, chemical, biological, and radiological hazards.
Objective of the Training:
The main goal of this training was to strengthen participants' capacity to respond to nuclear, chemical, and biological emergencies. Participants were taught effective methods for detecting, assessing, and controlling CBRN hazards to ensure public safety and environmental protection.
The training aimed to:
1. Build professional capacity among participants to handle emergencies related to chemicals, biology, radiation, and nuclear risks that could threaten public safety and the environment.
2. Enhance efficiency and rapid response capabilities during CBRN disasters.
3. Ensure the safety of communities and the environment from the impacts of chemical, biological, and nuclear hazards.
4. Strengthen national security by developing the ability to assess and manage these hazards.
5. Enable participants to protect citizens and their property from the harmful effects of nuclear, radiological, chemical, and biological threats.
6. Promote cooperation between the government and other organizations, including international bodies, for collective security.
7. Contribute to improving emergency preparedness systems and rapid response mechanisms for the government, health institutions, and international organizations.
8. Educate participants on the National Disaster and Radiological and Nuclear Emergency Response Plan for 2024.
9. Enable participants to better understand the CBRN action plan.
This training is crucial for strengthening national security and ensuring that institutions and professionals are capable of responding to chemical, radiological, biological, and nuclear emergencies. The success of the training will help build safer environments for the community and provide effective emergency responses during hazardous situations involving nuclear, radiological, chemical, and biological risks.
